The Great Bahama Bank
A full day on the Great Bahama Bank. It’s a a shallow body of water that stretches 75 nm across and 180 nm from north to south. We started off from Cat Cay in the morning and motored leisurely the entire day eastwards. The depth was consistently about 12 feet, but occasionally dipping down to 6-8 feet. Blue sky, no wind, almost glassy turquoise water. Incredibly beautiful.
I did a yoga session up on fore deck mid-morning. The slight movement of the boat in the calm waters added a new dimension to the poses, but still oh so nice. Chris rigged up the fishing gear and caught a fish that was too little for any good. The Great Bahama Bank seems like a desert of sorts. In the ultra-clear water, we didn’t see much of any life all day, other than a few tiny fish.
We stopped for a swim on the Mackie Shoal in the afternoon and played around with the new GoPro camera over and under water. Amazing picture quality. Love the gadgets! We also tossed Lucy in the water. She liked it only so-so (or possibly, quite likely, not at all…), but at least got a good cool-down.
