Nassau, Bahamas

We left West Bay early yesterday morning and slogged the 19 nm along the north side of New Providence Island to Nassau. Sunny and beautiful, but the wind directly against us from NE at about 12-15 kn. Also a 1-2 kt current to battle - as usual… looking forward to hitching a ride with the current instead at some point.
Entering Nassau harbor is like landing a Boeing at JFK. You have to radio the Nassau Port Control and request permission to enter, there are boats criss-crossing everywhere, huge cruise ships that take up 3/4 of the channel and not a ton of room to start with. Then all of a sudden some jackass dropping his anchor in the channel right in front of us - clearly even more of a newbie than us, we concluded with some satisfaction.
But we cleared the gauntlet and made our way in to a fuel dock to fill up, then docked the boat at Nassau Yacht Haven Marina where we will stay for a few days. Very nice to be here finally. Not because Nassau is much of a destination in itself, but it’s been our our target all along for picking up Justus and Eva.
Dinner at the the Poop Deck*, the marina’s restaurant, then off to bed. Wind, water and sun make you tired!
Now up early on Tuesday morning with a cup of coffee. The picture below is our viewpoint east in the hour before sunrise.
Poop deck: “In naval architecture, a poop deck is a deck that forms the roof of a cabin built in the rear, or ‘aft’, part of the superstructure of a ship. The name originates from the French word for stern, la poupe, from Latin puppis.”
