Learning to swim
We stayed put today in West Bay on New Providence Island. Nice to take a day off after having covered quite a bit of territory since Dec 1. We are only about 20 nm away from Nassau with a decent forecast for tomorrow so we shouldn’t have any trouble getting there in time to pick Justus and Eva up on Tuesday. Yes… we’ve broken the #1 rule of cruising: never commit to being in a certain location at a certain time. You can do one or the other, but not both. But then again, rules are there to be broken and this time it appears to be working out ok.
We had all kinds of little chores on the list for the day, but somehow we ran out of time and just about none of them happened. I think we may have adjusted to “island time” quicker than expected.
We did find time for a dinghy ride to shore both in the am and pm. The beach is called Jaws Beach since it was the filming site for the final installment of the Jaws series. No sharks in sight, instead a stroll and a nice long swim. Lucy has gotten to love the beach since our time in Brunswick this fall, but is still hesitant about full-on swimming. A hands-on swim lesson (i.e. Chris carrying large Schnauzer into deep water, giving her no choice but to swim back) proved quite successful. She did in fact make it back into shore and seemed no worse for wear. Makes the money we spent on swim lessons for the kids seem like a waste.
