Cat Cay by way of Turtle Rocks
Up early to take advantage of one of the last stays in a marina in a while. From now on we will be almost exclusively swinging at anchor. Marinas provide access to wifi, electricity and water, among other things, and we got plenty of all. And, very exciting to us, we got Halley’s new logo up on each side of the hulls. A proper naming ceremony will follow.
Then off to Turtle Rocks south of the Bimini north island. We “dropped the hook”, as we salties call it and went for our first snorkel swim. The water is very clear, warm (79F) and nicely salty, in other words, wonderful. Didn’t see much fish, but Chris spotted a stingray and I saw a barracuda. Lucy also got to run around on the beach and do her half-swim.
Then anchor up and over to our night anchorage outside Cat Cay. Messing around with the anchor for a little bit to make sure it’s well set. It would be both embarrassing and unfortunate to end up dragging onto the rocks of Cat Cay this early in our career. We’ve learned that normally people will dive on the anchor to make sure it’s well set, but since we arrived near sunset, also known as “shark-o-thirty”, we opted not to do so… Instead, we’ve been watching our anchor alarm radius on the chart plotter and all looks good. I think we can sleep soundly and safely.
